Wolves vs Chelsea – Highlights, Match Stats and Review
After a disappointing 2-2 home draw in the last match against Sheffield United at home, Chelsea have registered a thrashing 5-2 away victory against Wolves at Molineux Stadium on Saturday.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard had a few surprises in his starting XI. After the inclusion of the German international Antonio Rudiger and the exclusion of the Italian left-back Emerson because of the injury, Lampard switched his squad to a 3-5-2-1 formation. Marcos Alonso made his name in the starting line-up as expected for the first time in this season. Apart from that, Willian also was chosen ahead of the American sensation Christian Pulisic. Kurt Zouma was left out following his poor recent form. So, the 21-year-old youngster Fikayo Tomori was promoted to the starting XI.![](https://i0.wp.com/sports-nova.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/22164503468_ca164a9118_b_chelsea-willian.jpg)
On the other hand, the home side manager Nuno Espirito Santo made four changes from their 3-2 away defeat against Everton in the last game. Jesus Vallejo and Romain Saiss were promoted in the defence. Apart from them, Adama Traore and Leander Dendoncker found their names in the team list.
Chelsea started the game in a drastic manner taking a 3-0 lead in the first half of the game. The young Chelsea defender Tomori opened the goal tally on the 31st minute of the game with an absolute stunner from distance. The Portuguese veteran Rui Patricio had a wrong sided move initially and as a result, it was difficult for him to have a reach on the ball.
After the first goal, it was all Tammy Abraham show as the 21-year-old Chelsea academy graduate scored his first hattrick in Blue colours. He scored his first on the 34th minute following a stunning play in the box by Mason Mount. Had he not scored that goal, it would have been a clear penalty as the 20-year-old was tackled inside the box. Abraham scored his second goal on the 41st minute when he headed Marcos Alonso’s perfect delivery into the back of the net. The ex-Swansea player scored his third and the fourth for the team on the 55th minute in the second half with a flash of individual brilliance. He left the Wolves defender Conor Coady unanswered with his touches and finished low in the bottom corner of the post.
After the four goals, the home side returned two on the 69th and 85th minute of the game. The hattrick hero Tammy Abraham scored an own goal for the first one and the substitute Patrick Cutrone scored the second one. But on the 6th minute of the extra time in the second half, Mount registered his name on the scoresheet with some quick feet movements. With this scoreline, Chelsea have entered into the top six of the table. This victory will definitely provide them with some boosts before the Champions League tie against Valencia on Wednesday.
